British Columbia Grower Summit
Resilience in a High-Demand World: Energy, Efficiency, and the Future of Greenhouse Growing.
May 6, 2026 | Surrey, British Columbia
Greenhouse production continues to expand, but so does the pressure on energy systems, infrastructure, and operating margins.
The 2026 British Columbia Grower Summit, hosted by ACT, explores what resilience means in a high-demand world, where energy availability, efficiency, and predictability increasingly define success.
Through practical conversations and real world insights, this year's summit focuses on how integrated energy strategies across climate, light, water, and roots can help growers adapt, perform, and thrive.
We’re looking forward to gathering in Surrey!

Presented by Dirk Prins, Priva
Session description coming soon.
Presented by Dan Skinner, Grodan
Pepper wilting has emerged as a complex challenge for Canadian growers. Through collaboration with research institutions and commercial scale trials, Grodan has completed investigative research and developed a framework to address the underlying drivers of disease. This presentation will explore current hygiene practices, root-zone dynamics and fungal pathogens.
Presented by Pieter Mol, Svensson
Rising energy costs and the shift to LED production have changed how greenhouse climates behave, placing greater pressure on humidity control and climate uniformity. This session examines how energy efficiency, humidity management, and system coordination work together to create stable growing conditions in high‑demand greenhouses.
Focused on food and flower crops, the presentation shares practical, real‑world strategies involving climate screening, airflow, and integrated control. Attendees will gain insights into managing humidity in more efficient greenhouse environments, improving climate consistency, and supporting reliable yield and crop quality while reducing energy use.
Networking coffee break with refreshments.
Presented by Gabriel Forero, Philips LED Solutions
Signify is nearing the conclusion of the third year of a trial at Botany in the Netherlands in collaboration with Grodan; the trial is focused on reducing energy consumption by more than 40%. Gabriel Forero, plant specialist for the Philips LED team at Signify, will highlight trial protocol and results from the first two years of the study, and share information on the progress of the trial's third year under higher light levels (350 µmol/m2/s) and with the addition of Philips LED Interlighting.
Energy challenges don’t exist in isolation. This panel brings together growers to discuss how energy availability, infrastructure, climate control, water management, and root-zone strategies come together in modern greenhouse operations. Panelists will share lessons learned and insights on managing complexity while maintaining strong crop performance and operational resilience.
